India’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, or DPIIT, has signed separate agreements with PhonePe and Shell India to expand support for recognised startups.
The agreements were signed on 19 August and are aimed at improving startups’ access to technology, digital infrastructure, mentorship, market opportunities and industry networks.
The partnerships reflect a broader effort to connect India’s startup ecosystem with established companies that can provide practical resources and sector specific expertise.
Under the agreement with PhonePe, DPIIT recognised startups will receive transaction credits through the company’s Payment Gateway and access to the Indus AppStore.
The partnership will also provide dedicated onboarding and support services, along with opportunities to improve brand visibility.
PhonePe plans to conduct regular masterclasses and webinars covering areas such as fintech, sales, market strategy and business scaling.
The initiative is expected to help startups strengthen their capabilities and gain access to digital tools and knowledge that could support their growth.
The separate partnership with Shell India will focus on startups operating in the energy and climate technology sectors.
Participating startups will receive mentorship and strategic guidance, along with opportunities to connect with investors and incubators.
Startups may also participate in the Shell E4 Smart Energy Track, creating another channel for companies working on solutions connected to the evolving energy sector.
The partnership will additionally support the development of sectoral success stories, white papers, policy briefs, industry landscape reports and case studies focused on innovation and emerging practices within the energy and climate technology ecosystem.
Funding remains important for startups, but capital alone does not solve every challenge involved in building and scaling a company.
Access to technology infrastructure, experienced mentors, customers, investors and industry networks can play an equally important role in helping startups grow.
The DPIIT partnerships with PhonePe and Shell India bring together government support and private sector capabilities, creating more opportunities for startups to access resources that may otherwise be difficult to reach at an early stage.
The PhonePe partnership is expected to support startups working across digital and technology driven sectors, while the Shell India agreement places additional focus on energy and climate technology.
Together, the initiatives are intended to strengthen access to infrastructure, knowledge, mentorship, market connections and investment opportunities.
For India’s startup ecosystem, the larger significance lies in building stronger connections between founders, government institutions and established industry players.
