Why in the News?

Three Indian startups have earned a place among the 19 ventures chosen for the Commonwealth Startup Fellowship, standing out from more than 1,400 applications across 44 Commonwealth nations.

The selected companies are lifeandlimb.ai from Ghaziabad, Hexpressions from Jaipur and AgrowSure from Maharashtra.

The fellowship, organised by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in partnership with Imperial College London, concluded with a Capstone Showcase in London where the chosen startups presented their innovations to investors and policymakers.

Innovation Driving Social Impact

Lifeandlimb.ai was founded by IIT Kanpur graduates and is developing bionicli, a multi-articulated prosthetic hand that has already been piloted among 150 patients.

The company now plans to seek regulatory approval and expand into markets in Europe and the United States. AgrowSure is focusing on sustainable agritech solutions tailored to rural communities with ambitions to scale across Commonwealth nations.

Hexpressions has pioneered modular homes built with paper honeycomb panels, which can be completed in just four to five weeks, and is now working toward global adoption of its model.

Fellowship Opens Global Doors

The Commonwealth Startup Fellowship offers more than recognition by providing mentoring, networking opportunities and exposure to international markets.

Founders also took part in a bootcamp in Accra before presenting in London. Sarah Ranchev Hale, Head of Imperial Enterprise Lab, said the programme shows how innovative ventures can create growth and transform communities.

Kevin Ibeh, Commissioner of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, highlighted the role of these startups in job creation and social upliftment.

For the three Indian teams, the fellowship marks a step toward scaling their ideas beyond national borders and contributing to global problem solving.
