OpenAI has announced the acquisition of product testing startup Statsig in a deal valued at around $1.1 billion.
As part of the deal, Vijaye Raji will take on the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Applications at OpenAI. In this position, he will oversee engineering for OpenAI’s growing suite of apps, including ChatGPT and Codex, while building the infrastructure to support their rapid development.
He will report to Fidji Simo, the CEO of Applications at OpenAI, signaling the company’s commitment to expanding its leadership team with experienced technologists who have a proven track record of building large-scale platforms.
While OpenAI gains access to Statsig’s powerful experimentation platform, the company clarified that Statsig will continue to operate independently from its headquarters in Seattle, ensuring continuity for its existing customer base.
For OpenAI, the move comes at a time when its valuation has surged to nearly $300 billion, making it one of the most valuable private tech companies in the world. Integrating Statsig’s platform allows OpenAI to speed up product cycles, enhance user experience, and ensure its AI-powered applications are tested and refined at the same pace as their adoption.
Idji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, as featured in OpenAI’s own announcement:
“Vijaye has a remarkable record of building new consumer and B2B products and systems at scale. He’s joining at a time when our models are opening entirely new ways to build, and his leadership will help turn that progress into safe applications that empower people with many new tools to improve their lives, help companies increase their impact and allow developers to build faster and better products.”
