In a major step toward the future of digital commerce, Razorpay has partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and OpenAI to roll out “Agentic Payments” in ChatGPT.

This new feature allows users to search, explore, and even pay for products directly within the chat, eliminating the need for app switching and extra steps.

By combining Razorpay’s fintech expertise, NPCI’s trusted UPI network, and OpenAI’s conversational AI, the experience feels more like talking to a smart shopping assistant than using a payment tool.

It’s all about making online payments smoother, faster, and a lot more intuitive.

BigBasket Becomes the First to Try It Out

Leading the way is Tata-owned BigBasket, which has become the first brand to pilot this new system.

Imagine chatting with ChatGPT, asking it to find groceries or compare prices, and then paying for everything right there in the same conversation.

That’s exactly what Razorpay’s new AI-driven setup allows.

The chatbot utilises intelligence to understand user needs, recommends products, and securely processes UPI payments through Razorpay, all within a seamless one-flow experience.

A Glimpse Into the Future of Payments

Razorpay CEO Harshil Mathur called this collaboration a step toward more “intelligent payments,” where AI doesn’t just process transactions but helps people make smarter choices while doing so.

NPCI’s Executive Director Sohini Rajola added that the goal is to make payments “intuitive, intelligent, and inclusive,” powered by both AI and UPI.

This partnership signals a big shift in how Indians might shop online in the future: simply by talking to an AI, rather than tapping through endless menus. It’s an exciting example of how fintech and AI are coming together to shape the next generation of digital payments.
