Rapido, best known for its bike taxi and logistics services, has officially entered India’s food delivery market with its new platform Ownly.

The Bengaluru-based startup has secured a ₹125 crore investment from Nexus Venture Partners to support this move, and has already started piloting the service in selected cities.

In a bold challenge to established players like Zomato and Swiggy, Rapido is positioning Ownly as a cost-effective option for both consumers and restaurants.

What’s different about ‘Ownly’?

Unlike competitors that charge commissions upwards of 25%, Ownly is operating on an 8–15% commission model for restaurant partners. Additionally, delivery fees are fixed at ₹25 for under 3 km and ₹50 beyond that, eliminating surge-based variability. This transparent and low-cost structure is designed to attract smaller eateries and value-conscious consumers, two segments underserved by existing platforms.

The move has already rattled the market—Zomato’s parent (Eternal) and Swiggy have reportedly seen dips in share value in response to Rapido’s aggressive strategy.

Industry insiders suggest that if scaled effectively, Ownly could reshape margins and economics in the sector.

Nexus Investment Strengthens Rapido’s Multi-Service Ecosystem

The ₹125 crore investment from Nexus Venture Partners is seen as a strategic bet not just on food delivery but on Rapido’s evolving super-app ambitions. With an existing fleet and infrastructure from its ride and logistics business, Rapido is well-positioned to keep delivery costs low and integrate services across verticals.

The launch of Ownly marks a turning point where Rapido transitions from a mobility player to a broader consumer platform, tapping into a ₹500+ billion food delivery market.

Early pilots will serve as a litmus test before national rollout.

The Rapido food delivery launch not only introduces a new player into the crowded market but potentially resets benchmarks for cost, transparency, and platform economics.
