Kavya Karnatac — The Voice Behind KK Create

From a young age, students are usually taught to see the world in black and white, as if everything is either right or wrong. But Kavya believes the world is mostly grey, with many different sides and stories.

She feels that modern journalism often does not show these realities in a true and honest way.

That belief became the heart of her project KK Create, where she travels across India to give people a chance to tell their own stories.

Her dream is big: to visit every district in India and record the voices that often go unnoticed, and hand them the mic to tell their tales.

Early Life & Education

Kavya was born in 1997 in Nainital, Uttarakhand, but she grew up in Delhi. She attended Ahlcon Public School and later pursued an English Honours degree at Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR). She has often said that studying in a women’s college was an unbeatable experience. Even from a young age, she was an overachiever, winning awards and topping her classes.

After completing her undergraduate degree, Kavya went on to the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, to study Media and Cultural Studies. During her time there, she created a short documentary on the Aarey forest and local Adivasi communities, an experience that made her realize the power of real stories and the importance of documenting them honestly.

Not an Overnight Success

Although many see KK Create as an overnight success, Kavya’s journey began long before that.

In college, she and her classmates would write scripts, direct, and perform plays, honing her storytelling skills early on. During her master’s program, she learned video editing and on-ground reporting, skills that later helped her build a platform that connects and empowers people.

Her meticulous planning is something she attributes to her mother, a disciplined teacher who followed a strict routine for 25 years.

In just two years, Kavya has grown her platform tremendously. Her Instagram account @kk.create now has over 3.5 million followers, and her YouTube channel has crossed 2 million subscribers with nearly a billion views: a testament to her dedication, skill, and vision.

How Does The Work Happen?

Each video produced under KK Create follows a structured process and a set budget. On average, every project has a budget of around ₹1.5 lakhs, excluding costs for equipment and team salaries. Before shooting begins, the team conducts extensive research on the topic, followed by three separate rounds of fact-checking using different sources to ensure complete accuracy. During fieldwork, a team of three people usually spends about seven days on location, working nearly 12 hours each day to capture every detail authentically.

Kavya personally ensures that every detail of her content is thoughtfully crafted. She pays close attention to each thumbnail and title, making sure they are appealing and reach the right audience.

Beyond that, she invests extra time in editing the first 15 to 30 seconds of every video to make it highly engaging, as she believes those opening moments are key to capturing and maintaining viewer attention.

Kavya also has a clear vision for the future of content creation. She believes that no matter how the industry evolves, one thing will always remain constant: the power of shared experiences.

According to her, when creators manage to explain and connect through stories that reflect common human emotions and realities, they naturally build trust and connection. She also believes that the next big wave of storytelling will come from regional and local creators, who will rise to fame by bringing authenticity, language diversity, and real cultural depth to the digital space.
