Why in the news?

Hydrebad-based aerospace manufacturing startup Jeh Aerospace has raised 11 million dollars in a Series A funding round led by Elevation Capital, with participation from existing investor General Catalyst. The funding marks a major step forward for the company as it looks to scale its operations and build out its presence in the global aerospace supply chain.

Founded in 2022 by aerospace industry veterans Vishal R Sanghavi and Venkatesh Mudragalla, Jeh Aerospace focuses on providing high-precision manufacturing solutions for aerospace OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers. Both founders bring decades of experience from their time at the Tata Group, with Sanghavi previously serving as one of the youngest CXOs in the conglomerate’s history.

The startup plans to use the new capital to expand its manufacturing infrastructure, invest in advanced tooling and automation, and ramp up hiring across engineering, R&D, and production teams. The company also aims to enhance its digital manufacturing systems to improve efficiency and meet the growing demands of global clients.

What Jeh Aerospace Plans to Do with the Funding

The funding will be deployed across several focus areas. A major portion will go toward:

  • Expanding manufacturing facilities to support large-scale production volumes for global aerospace clients

  • Hiring engineering talent to strengthen R&D and design-for-manufacture capabilities

  • Developing digital manufacturing systems using automation, IoT, and AI-driven quality control

  • Streamlining the aerospace-grade supply chain for cost efficiency and faster delivery timelines

  • Achieving key global certifications such as AS9100 and NADCAP to qualify for international defence and aerospace projects

Jeh Aerospace is already working with both Indian and international aerospace firms on structural components and complex assemblies. The company is part of a growing wave of Indian startups aiming to plug gaps in the global aerospace supply chain amid rising geopolitical tensions and a push for supply chain diversification.

Industry Backing and Strategic Significance

According to Elevation Capital, Jeh Aerospace stands at the intersection of two major trends: the rise of aerospace manufacturing in India and the global realignment of supply chains away from traditional hubs. By producing complex, flight-critical components and assemblies domestically, the company is directly supporting the country’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

By securing long-term manufacturing contracts with global OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers, Jeh is helping boost India’s aerospace exports. With clients in the US and other global markets, the company is demonstrating that India can not only manufacture to world standards but also do it at scale.

Jeh is investing heavily in local talent. Through its “Centre for Skills,” the company is training engineers and technicians in aerospace-grade manufacturing standards. This not only creates jobs but also upskills the Indian workforce in cutting-edge technologies like AI-led automation, digital twin systems, and precision machining.

The Indian government’s focus on Make in India and the defence sector’s growing private participation have also boosted interest in aerospace manufacturing startups. In 2023 alone, India’s defence and aerospace exports crossed 16,000 crore rupees, and the sector is expected to grow to over 25 billion dollars by 2027.

Jeh’s founders say their goal is to build a “globally competitive aerospace factory floor” out of India, one that can meet international quality standards, deliver on tight deadlines, and innovate on both cost and design.

India’s Aerospace Sector Is Taking Off

India’s aerospace and defense manufacturing sector is witnessing unprecedented growth. According to Ministry of Defence data, aerospace and defense exports from India grew more than 20-fold over the past decade, touching ₹16,000 crore (approx. $2 billion) in 2023, and the government aims to grow this to ₹35,000 crore ($4.2 billion) by 2025.

With strong government backing under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, global aerospace giants such as Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, and Safran are increasingly sourcing components and systems from India. India’s aerospace ecosystem is evolving from low-cost outsourcing to high-value design, manufacturing, and assembly opening the door for startups like Jeh Aerospace to plug key gaps in the supply chain.
