The road not taken: Dahirya’s unconventional path

Dhairya Gangwani is the founder of Dhairya Decodes, a platform designed to help individuals grow professionally by enhancing their skills, confidence, and work performance. She’s also an educator, TEDx speaker, and mentor who’s made a mark by doing things differently.

But Dhairya was not always someone who stood apart. She was once like everyone else. She followed the crowd. Whatever most people around her were doing, she felt she should probably do the same. She completed her B.Tech. in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the Vellore Institute of Technology and graduated in 2020.

But deep down, she always knew that was not her calling.

She was boldly discouraged by people around her when she decided to pursue her career in management without a B-school degree because her decision was not “conventional,” but she had decided for herself. She wanted to be something more than the herd. She wanted to follow what she truly wanted, and she did exactly that.

She started her journey by working as an analyst and simultaneously creating content for working professionals and students to enhance their skills in the workplace.

This side hustle of being a content creator became her real hustle, and this is where her journey of Dhairya Decodes started.

The Side Hustle that became the Real Hustle

Dhairya Decodes began in 2020 with one clear mission: to help students and working professionals upskill, grow, and navigate their careers with more confidence and clarity. What started as a passion project quickly turned into a full-fledged platform that offers personalised mentoring, industry-relevant workshops, and practical career advice for those seeking direction in the ever-evolving professional world.

The platform covers a wide range of services including one-on-one mentorship, career coaching, resume and LinkedIn profile building, mock interviews, corporate training sessions, and tailored webinars for institutions and organisations. It is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world workplace readiness.

So far, Dhairya Decodes has conducted over 10,000+ hours of training, delivered 250+ global talks, and collaborated with 75+ institutions including top colleges, universities, and corporate companies. Backed by 200+ testimonials, the platform has directly impacted 5,000+ students and working professionals and built a digital community of over 55,000 followers across platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube.

One of the key features that sets Dhairya Decodes apart is its focus on content that is honest, practical, and deeply relatable. Dhairya regularly creates videos, reels, and carousel posts under the same name: breaking down complex career topics into simple and actionable insights. From “Job Hopping Kills Career Growth” to “Does the IIT Tag Really Matter?” the platform tackles real questions that young professionals often struggle with, but are rarely addressed in formal education or corporate spaces.

The Five Lessons

In her TEDx talk, Dhairya breaks down five things that shaped her journey and can shape yours, too.

1. Stop looking at the other side of the grass.
When Dhairya was in college, she was surrounded by overachievers and was drowning in comparison. Ninety-five per cent of her batchmates were aiming for a tech-based job. For a while, she thought she should also pursue what seemed like the safer choice. But then, she recalled a poem by Robert Frost:
“Two roads diverged and I,
I took the one less travelled.”
This made her realise something even greater: the outcome of our choices is not always in our hands, but the power to make a choice that can change the course of our lives is definitely within us.

2. Don’t be afraid to explore
“Trust me, the worst thing you can do as a college student is not give yourself the freedom to try out different things.”
That is something Dhairya strongly believes. During her college years, she explored different industries through 25 internships. That journey of trial and error helped her discover that consulting was her true calling. According to her, the only way to find what you genuinely love is by experimenting without fear and allowing yourself the space to fail and learn.

3. Consistency and self-belief will fuel your passion
Once you find what you love, the real journey begins. And it is rarely smooth. What keeps you going is not motivation or luck. It is consistency and belief in yourself. Passion is not a one-time discovery. It is something you commit to every single day.

4. Collaboration over competition is the way to grow
There is always a fear of being left behind. But the truth is, there will always be someone ahead of you, and you will always be ahead of someone else. So instead of competing constantly, why not collaborate? Collaboration leads to creativity, innovation, and mutual growth.

5. Passion is not discovered overnight
According to Dhairya, passion is a state where work does not feel forced. It is something you naturally gravitate towards. For her, that passion is content creation and mentoring. But she believes the biggest barrier between people and their passion is often societal opinion. And the idea of overnight success is a myth. Passion takes time, patience, and the courage to keep going even when things are unclear.
