Announcement Details

Emami Limited has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the remaining 73.5 percent stake in Axiom Ayurveda in a deal valued at up to Rs 200 crore. The company already held about 26.5 percent and has now increased its ownership to more than 63 percent through the first tranche of the transaction. The remaining stake will be acquired in phases over the next three months subject to approvals.

Why This News Matters

The acquisition reflects a broader shift among major FMCG companies toward health focused food and beverage categories. As consumer demand moves toward natural wellness products, companies are expanding beyond personal care portfolios to capture emerging growth opportunities.

The Ayurveda and natural products segment in India is estimated at 10 to 12 billion dollars and continues to grow significantly faster than traditional FMCG categories.

What Axiom Ayurveda Does

Founded in 1995, Axiom Ayurveda operates across health and wellness categories with products such as AloFrut, Jeevan Ras, and Mukti Gold. Its flagship brand AloFrut has built a strong presence in general trade and institutional distribution channels with aloe vera based fruit beverages.

Growth Outlook After Acquisition

Axiom reported turnover of around Rs 107 crore in FY25 and is expected to scale to nearly Rs 180 crore in FY26. Emami’s distribution reach and brand building capabilities are expected to accelerate expansion across markets.

The company will be led by Harkirat Bedi as Chief Executive Officer following the acquisition.

Industry Context

The move aligns with a wider trend of FMCG companies acquiring regional wellness brands to strengthen their presence in high growth natural product categories. With several emerging brands already scaling into the Rs 100 to Rs 500 crore range, acquisitions are becoming a preferred strategy for rapid entry into the segment.
